The 17 foot tall, 90 pound heavy statue is carved from a single piece of marble. The slab was commissioned originally for Agostino who stopped after the legs. Donatello and Rosselino followed but soon abandoned the stone too. It lay unwanted for 26 years when Michaelangelo beat da Vinci and was given the project by the Operai. "I saw the angel in the marble and carved till I set it free.", he later said about his work. Our rendition re-imagines this great classic in a slightly more colorful silhouette.
